WifWulf

Written by Ogden, Kelly, Lanzing
Art by Dailen Ogden

Wif, an Old English word for 'woman' (from which we derive the word 'wife') and Wulf, which, yeah, means 'wolf.' As wer meant 'man' you can probably guess the type of heroine our gory little story runs with.

here we have: A young woman in 1860s Montana befriends a wolf in the woods near her home, whom her new husband (much-beloved by the town, but a different man behind closed doors) forbids her from seeing. A folklore myth about the cage of marriage, duty, the call of the wild, and embracing the bad bitch inside, WifWulf has so much heart and beauty in so few pages.

'Little' as in, a mere 46 pages, but each and every page is, without hyperbole, fucking stunning. The character design, the page layout, the coloring, the lettering, the script-- all of it, gorgeous, and flows like a hand through soft fur.

The paperback I got from Vault collects the main story, two additional related stories which were very enjoyable, and an impressively hearty art gallery. It's obvious an incredible amount of care and passion went into this; cannot praise this little gem enough.
