'quaint' communities so often hold a bloody heritage

here we have: A disgraced (and haunted) young journalist is sent to cover the 400-yr anniversary of St. Augustine, Florida, where she meets a mother and her teenage daughter who recently moved to the area and are experiencing a pointedly racialized, very unwarm welcome. Together, journo lady and teenager work to uncover a grossly dark history hidden under the historical town's celebrations... and battle alligators!

A quite layered story that included so much I worried they couldn't wrap it up in 6 issues, but I think they did! Loved the three main ladies, and the theme of getting revenge on societal trauma, sundown towns, and colonization. Hell yeah. Perhaps less spooky than the other Dark Spaces titles but this one had hands down the most heart, with truly engaging characters. And the art! Great coloring, plus some really beautiful covers. This one will stick with me, and I kept thinking of cool ladies in my life who would also love it.
